Modern Foreign Language (MFL)

In keeping with St Anthony’s diverse and inclusive ethos, the Spanish curriculum enables children to explore the cultures and customs of various Spanish speaking countries, located on several continents. Through mediums such as song, dance, drama and technology, our dynamic and interactive lessons foster curious learners to deepen their understanding of the world.

The framework and structure of the Spanish curriculum at St Anthony’s ensures children build on previous learning. As they progress, children fine-tune and extend their skills, creating a foundation for further absorption of the language. Where appropriate, effective cross-curricular links are made to reinforce learning.

Children are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to articulate their thoughts and ideas in Spanish. The curriculum enables opportunities for children to speak with an increasing confidence and spontaneity as well as understand written and spoken expressions of the Spanish language.

Writing for different purposes and audiences, develops the use of accurate grammatical structures and punctuation. The curriculum exposes children to various spoken stimuli, which enables continual improvement in pronunciation and intonation.

Ultimately, the primary intent is to ignite within our children an appreciation and enjoyment of the Spanish language. This curriculum lays a foundation for further learning and equips our young linguists with the fundamental tools to communicate for practical purposes.
